Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk: A Self-Guided History Tour
As chief executive, the president helps guide policy by proposing the creation of laws. The president can use this speech to explain his ideas to Congress and to encourage Congress to pass certain pieces of legislation. The president can propose new initiatives, and he also uses the State of the Union to speak directly to the American people. He can try to gain public support for new programs.
You need to watch the State of the Union, either live and/or online. You should take notes as the President delivers his address. Then, identify THREE major issues the President discussed in his speech and do the following.
1. Identify and explain what the issue is.
2. Explain the President’s view/opinion on the issue.
3. Explain what the President wants to do about the issue and how he plans to do it. USE SPECIFICS!
4. What was audience reaction to each of the above issues?
Each of the items above needs to be very thoroughly explained. ½ -1 page is expected length.

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk: A Self-Guided History Tour
- Take a step back in time with this self-guided history lesson highlighting 100+ years of Boardwalk and California history. You'll need to visit at least 10 of the locations, include 3 photos (selfies are great!), and write a 2+ page informational essay on your experience. Be sure to narrate your observations of the attractions, not just what is provided to you below.
- Use the History Tour Activity Workbook and Historic Boardwalk Walking Tour pamphlet for assistance.
- Complete a two-page summary of your experience and at least 3 photos or illustrations.
- Recommended museums are Santa Cruz MAH, Rosicrucion Egyptian Museum, Legion of Honor SF, Land of Medicine Buddha, Asian Art Museum SF, and de Young SF.
- Attend a service at a local house of worship and include 3 photos (selfies are great!), and write a 2+ page informational essay on your experience. If you have a faith (religion), this can be within or outside of it.
